PPM were delighted to get involved again with this year’s Give a Day to the City initiative. Our team had a fantastic time helping Tullie House to transform a walled secret garden into a beautiful, accessible and safe inner-city green space for schools, community groups and families to enjoy.
Give a Day 2018 took place from Sunday 1st to Sunday 8th July. There were 35 projects delivered by more than 1100 people, helping to make Carlisle the most generous city on Earth. Give a Day to the City in Carlisle is all about whatever is in your hand, whatever you are passionate about and giving it away for the benefit of another.
The PPM team joined the Secret Garden project which was helping to refurbish the secret walled garden at Tullie House Museum. Tullie House had received funding from The People’s Postcode Lottery Fund to transform the garden and needed volunteers to bring their fantastic plans to life.
The team were involved in the early stages of the project clearing unwanted turf, debris, branches and weeds. It was a blissful summer’s day in the garden and delicious iced coffees were provided by Costa’s Carlisle who were also volunteering in the garden. The team also helped with planting and got creative adding some artwork to the mural at the entrance of the garden. Groups that attended throughout the rest of the week helped with the building of planters, fencing, planting, painting, erecting a children’s playhouse and creating a number of bug hotels including the ‘Grand Bugapest Hotel’ to entice wildlife to the gardens.
The garden now has themed sensory areas, a wealth of plants, trees, flowers and beautiful murals for visitors to enjoy.
Tullie House will be inviting school groups, community groups, families and of course wildlife to visit and enjoy the garden.
Our PPM team really love getting involved with the Give a Day projects as part of our staff volunteering scheme and we are looking forward to deciding on a project for 2019.
Our Business Admin Apprentice, Charlotte said “I really enjoyed working with the other volunteers and seeing the progression of the project, it was amazing the transformation that was made in just one day of us all working together in the garden.”
