PPM were delighted to help Rachel at Calderwood House, a local homeless hostel, when she approached us for support through the new Cumbria Exchange website. Essential building maintenance adds a huge amount to the organisations running costs each year so we were pleased to be able to save their important funds and provide one of our skilled operatives to help with works needed through our staff volunteering scheme.
Calderwood House in Egremont is a homeless hostel providing innovative solutions to rising homelessness and unemployment in Copeland, West Cumbria. Their staff provide shelter, safety and support around the clock for those in need. Calderwood House is a community project funded by corporate social sponsorship, rental income and fundraising initiatives.
PPM and Calderwood House were brought together through the fantastic Cumbria Exchange website. Cumbria Exchange is a new initiative for community organisations and businesses to connect with each other to offer free or in-kind support for mutual benefit. It is hoped that by supporting each other, businesses and communities can grow. PPM offer the services of our skilled trade’s workforce to assist with any maintenance that organisations may need help with.
Rachel Holliday from Calderwood House said: “Every year we must find new ways to save on running costs. I noticed on Cumbria Exchange that PPM were offering their maintenance services to projects in the Community. I imagined they would be inundated with requests, but I applied and the very next day they got in touch! A couple of days later Gary arrived and fixed up all our fire doors and installed our handwashing system for us! Maintenance is such an expensive cost to us, so to have this service for free, and to be able to access it so quickly, is just brilliant. Thank you Cumbria Exchange and thank you PPM!!!"
Beth Nicholls from PPM Limited said: “We were delighted to be able to help Rachel at Calderwood House as we understand the importance of being able to save as much of their donated funds for concentrating on helping people who are homeless in the area and getting them back into employment. It’s a fantastic community project with valuable benefits for many people in West Cumbria. We work in the communities that Calderwood offer help to and we know how important it is to support these essential services in the most effective way that we can.”
